Cherokee Normal Institute at Forney in 1892

This school in the southeast part of the County. Students came from around the County and Georgia both daily by horseback and a few were boarded by the community. The first principal was Mr. T. Wilkerson and Miss Fanny Mae Walden taught music in the auditorium. The Institute burned in 1900 and a smaller building was built with Mr. J. H. Scroggins as principal and was named the Forney Academy. It ceased operation about 1910.
